KOCHI: After months of delay, Kochi Corporation launched its new website on Monday after removing the old one. Along with this, an online service to pay property tax has also been made available to the public through its official website, www.kochicorporation.lsgkerala.gov.in.
“We have reached an important milestone by completing data entry for 89,166 buildings completed after 2013 in four months. Data entry of the remaining 2.5 lakh buildings will begin this week,” Mayor M Anilkumar said. “Building ownership and age certificates have also been made available for buildings constructed after 2013 and can be downloaded from the website.
From April 2022, payment of the business tax will be done online,” he added. The payment gateway includes more than 50 banks and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system. Birth and death certificates for September 7, 2021 are available on the website. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was the agency responsible for implementing the e-governance system, but the company parted ways with it last year.
Criticized for its failure to implement e-governance and left behind in the digital race, the company will ensure its website has all the features a citizen would need. The mayor said it would take at least six months to complete data entry of buildings constructed before 2013.
Officials will need to check the register and verify the details before putting it into the system. “Taxpayers can file an application with the relevant zone office to make payment for buildings constructed before 2013 via the Internet. Once the application is submitted, the company will make arrangements within seven days and can benefit from the online service,” the mayor said.
